Nursing home in another state sued for negligence

A nursing home two states away is accused of failing to properly take care of a patient, resulting in her death. The victim's surviving family members have filed claims against the facility and specific staff members whose alleged negligence contributed to her demise. Those in Wyoming who are going through similar trials as this family may be entitled to take the same action.

According to reports, on March 18, 2019, a 58-year-old woman fell in the bathroom when she attempted to go alone after staff members at the Hillcrest Health Care Center failed to respond when she pushed her call light. As a result of that fall, she fractured two vertebrae. These fractures went undiagnosed for weeks, however, because her medical providers supposedly failed to run proper testing and instead gave her pain pills and prescribed physical therapy.

After weeks of hearing their loved one complaining of pain, the patient's family requested she be transferred to a hospital for care. At the hospital, she was diagnosed with an infection that had invaded the fractures. She died from complications 10 days later.

Hillcrest denies any wrongdoing, though the facility has been fined thousands of dollars since this event. This is not the first time the company has been fined for safety violations. It has happened a total of six times in the past 10 years.

The victim's family is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. Not only are they seeking relief for their losses, but they are also seeking compensation for the victim's pain and suffering. They do want to see this case go to court.

Sadly, there are those in Wyoming who have also lost loved ones due to the actions or inactions of their nursing home medical providers. Such negligence cannot and should not be ignored. Anyone dealing with a similar issue may also seek compensation for their losses. Legal counsel can review the details of one's case and help one decide an appropriate course of action.
